Mark Stein, originally from Plantation, Florida, is now in his third year at the Cleveland Institute of Music, where he studies with Cleveland Orchestra Principal Timpanist Paul Yancich and former Principal Percussionist Richard Weiner. Mark originally began his musical studies at the age of nine. During high school, he was selected to play at various FMEA (Florida Music Educator’s Association) and FBA (Florida Bandmasters Association) events. Mark also performed side-by-side with the New World Symphony in Miami Beach, FL. During his time in high school, Mark Stein studied with Sergio Carreno, now a member of the Oregon Symphony Orchestra. Through two and a half years of college, Mark has performed with various regional orchestras in northeast Ohio, and performed in a mallet quartet with former Cleveland Orchestra percussionist Joe Adato in September 2011, called “The Marimba Masters of Cleveland.” In 2012, Mark was the recipient of the Percussive Arts Society’s Cloyd Duff Scholarship, and accepted his award at the annual Percussive Arts Society International Conventional in Austin, TX. Mark Stein is an alumnus of the Boston University Tanglewood Institute (’09).
